Copyright and Use
- If your entry is selected for an award, you agree to take part in a reasonable level of related publicity and to allow the use of your name and likeness for advertising, promotional, and publicity purposes without additional payment.
- You retain full copyright ownership of your work.
- By entering the competition, you grant the Royal Astronomical Society a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, edit, and distribute your work for promotional and educational purposes, in any medium, including its website, social media platforms, and in partnership with sponsors.
- This licence will begin on the date your photograph is submitted and will remain in effect for five years. After this period:
- The Royal Astronomical Society may retain archival copies (electronic or otherwise) of the photographs.
- The Royal Astronomical Society may retain copies of promotional materials created for the purpose of promoting or publicising the competition; however, permission will be sought for any further use of the photographs beyond this scope.
- The photographer will be credited whenever a photograph is used.
Privacy and data protection
- Personal data will be used solely for administering the competition and related activities.
- Winners may be invited to take part in publicity activities, which may include the use of their name and photographs.
- Entrants may request for their data to be deleted by the RAS at any time by contacting rastrophoto@ras.ac.uk.
- We do not sell your personal data. All images and personal data will be deleted by January 2032.
Legal Information
- The competition is governed by English law
- The Royal Astronomical Society reserves the right to:
- Reject entries that do not comply with these terms and conditions.
- Disqualify participants who breach the rules or act contrary to the spirit of the competition.
- Cancel, suspend, or modify the competition where necessary.
- Make final and binding decisions on all aspects of the competition.
