RAStroPhoto is a global astronomy photography competition launched by the Royal Astronomical Society to celebrate the bicentenary of the Society’s flagship astronomy journal, Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
This commemorative competition aims to showcase images taken by amateur astronomers and citizen scientists, and furthers the aim of the Society to encourage and promote the study of astronomy while honouring this significant milestone for the journal. We hope to share images that capture the wonder of astronomy, the night sky, and the science (and scientists!) that helps us understand the universe.
The competition will be open to all entrants on 01 November 2026 (00:00:01 GMT) and will close on 15 January 2027 (23:59:59 GMT). The winners will be announced on this website and at the National Astronomy Meeting in July 2027 (NAM 2027).
The Royal Astronomical Society is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (No. 226545).
